Electric Vehicle Quality Engineer – Wire Harness & Electrical Systems
Location: Hamtramck, MI (Hamtramck Assembly Center) Status: Contract (Potential for Extension)
The Role
We are looking for a collaborative, detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our team at the Hamtramck Assembly Center. The plant is an all-EV manufacturing environment, ensuring the backbone of next-generation vehicles meets the highest standards of excellence.
Time is balanced between the production floor and technical documentation, serving as the bridge between "what’s designed" and "what’s built." About 60% of your day collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers, and 40% driving independent problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
In this role, you’ll be stepping in to fill the shoes of a valued retiree, taking ownership of electrical quality in a fast-paced, leading-edge facility.
Responsibilities:
Resolve & Refine: Support General Assembly by identifying and resolving quality issues specifically related to wire harnesses and complex electrical systems.
Collaborate: Work directly with suppliers, production teams, and product engineering to ensure seamless integration.
Investigate: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions for electrical discrepancies.
Document: Manage engineering change processes and maintain meticulous issue reporting and follow-up.
Travel: Conduct occasional local visits to supplier sites to ensure quality at the source.
Education & Experience:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is preferred. (No degree? We still want to hear from you if you have 3+ years of relevant industry experience)
Experience: Previous experience in the automotive sector is a huge plus.
Technical Savvy: Understand engineering change processes and have a knack for analytical thinking.
Communication: Demonstrate an understanding of complex technical issues clearly to both a technician on the floor and a manager in a boardroom.
Flexibility: Comfortable working independently but thrive in a team setting. Note: Occasional support during plant shutdowns may be required based on workload.
The Interview Process
Resume Review and submittal. Hiring time is estimated to be May 11th
Virtual Interview: A 30-minute Microsoft Teams session with the Hiring Manager and Team Lead.
Style: A mix of conversational discussion and STAR-based (Situation, Task, Action, Result) questions.
