Position:  Project Engineer – Interior Systems

Location: GM Warren Tech Center

Number of Openings:  1

Shifts: 

Days.  Monday – Friday: 8am to 5pm

• Hybrid:  WFH M & F.  Onsite: Tues, Wed, Thurs

Environment: 

Interview Process:  2 phases.

1^st: 30 minute MS Teams with the hiring manager and several others from the group.

2^nd: 1 hour Face to Face

Travel:  Less than 10%.  Occasional support following critical activities at suppliers and GM plants.

Can be anywhere in the United States. Currently travel to Lansing and Detroit are required every couple weeks. Rarely if ever will there be overnight travel lasting longer than 1 week.

 Driving Requirement:  This role may include driving company vehicles.  A good driving record is essential. 

Overview:

The Project Engineer supports the creation of future mobility and will include developing instrument panels and consoles that contain a wide array of next generation displays and electronics.   You will balance a list of vehicle and occupant performance requirements while engineering the highly styled instrument panel and console.  These are the major systems that a customer sees and touches daily.  The project engineer is responsible for project design / efficiency / innovation, scope management, cost control, quality, and performance reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Set-up and perform emission testing on vehicles.
• Evaluate results
• Recommend corrective action

Examples of a plan for the day:

• Each day is going to be different:
• Mondays are a team meeting to go through open issues on either current or future programs,
• Tuesdays are group meetings
• Design review meetings throughout the week with both the studio and the design teams.
• Internal design meetings where they come back and discuss different issues, sourcing package one day and could also be working with the studio on an issue, duties are different every single day 

Interaction level with the team: There are 10 people on the team, all separated by different programs, they work with all different cross functional teams including the studio, electrical (packaging switches and displays), manufacturing, safety teams (airbag performance), finance (costing and understanding cost models)

• Confidence to ask questions and be able to do more/try to challenge things and understand how to improve things (improve quality, cost effective)
• Program management – Understands this and how to get things done

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
• 8 – 10 years of experience from other OEMs and other Cockpit suppliers.
• Must have a good driving record!  This position involves driving corporate vehicles.
• Prefer PMI or PMP certification
• Understand Change Management
