Reports: Reports to Foam Manager. No direct reports to supervise.
The RCO Engineering team is looking for a skilled Foam NC Machinist with 3–5 years of experience to join our dynamic prototype and production team. This role is critical for manufacturing high-precision foam components, patterns, and mold supporting the aerospace and general production group in a fast-paced manufacturing business. They will be responsible for the setup, operation, and optimization of 3- and 5-axis CNC machines in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift between rapid R&D prototyping and low-rate production runs. The successful candidate must be a self-starter having a sense of ownership of their projects, and highly organized with a willingness to grow within the foam group.
Core Responsibilities
- Setup & Operation: Create setup/tooling sheets to assist operators with setup on Thermwood routers
- Manage production run jobs with operators,
- Answering questions and ensuring quality requirements are met.
- Prototype to Production: Transition seamlessly from executing "one-off" experimental parts to managing low-volume production batches with high efficiency.
- Programming & G-Code: Read and interpret complex blueprints, CAD models, and CAM files. Perform "at-machine" G-code edits to optimize toolpaths for foam-specific feeds and speeds.
- Quality Inspection: Use precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) to perform first-article and in-process inspections, ensuring parts meet tight tolerances.
- Collaborative Design: Provide real-time Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback to engineers to improve part producibility and solve machining challenges.
- Tooling & Fixturing: Design and fabricate custom work-holding fixtures and jigs necessary for complex foam geometries.
- Maintenance: Perform daily machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized workspace
Requirements
- Experience as a CNC Programmer:
- Minimum of 3 years working as an NC machinist
- Large-format CNC routers and milling centers
- Minimum of 1 year working with Foam
- Knowledge of Visi programming software
- Experience in production and/or prototype settings
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational Training or CNC certification preferred
