Position: Diesel Engine Mechanical Technician - Dynamometer Testing
Location: Pontiac, MI
Duration: Long term
Shift: 2nd or 3rd
Trained on days for 8 weeks: 6:00 am – 4:30 pm then transition to 2nd or 3rd shift
- Pallet build – 30 days (1st shift)
- Dyno cell – 30 days (1st shift)
- Engine development (2nd shift)
Regular schedule: Monday through Friday. 5, 8-hour days
- 2nd: 2:45pm – 11:15pm
- 3rd: 1000 pm – 6:30am
Opportunity to work overtime on Saturday and Sunday.
Fit for Work: A physical is required as part of the pre-employment background checks.
Pay: Based on experience.
Number of openings: 1 new position.
Interviews: The week of October 27th. onsite: 30 – 45 minutes with the manager and supervisor. Target start date November 10th.
OVERVIEW
The Diesel Engine Dynamometer Mechanical Technician will set up and perform emission testing on vehicles, evaluates the results, and recommends corrective action(s). they will see new products before the public does and help with collaborate sharing ideas with Engineers to find solutions to problems that the Technician is seeing. 10% of the work is automated and the rest is manual.
Successful candidates must be able to work independently and collaborate with teammates in a fast-paced environment. There is a lot of interacting between team members and help is always available for troubleshooting.

- Notify Team Leader/Group Leader of quality related issues.

- Support resolution to all quality issues.
- Ensure containment processes are followed.
- Identify defects in/out area.
- Understand and follow problem escalation process.
- Responsiveness: Respond appropriately to meet the customer’s requirements.
- Understand daily work assignment(s).
- Meet with Team Leader at start of shift to get daily assignment(s).
- Able to use Andon system in accordance with escalation process.
- Participate in Throughput Improvement Processes (TIP) meetings.
- Ensure scrap and non-conforming material is identified and set aside for processing.
- COST: Utilize continuous improvement to identify and eliminate the 7 forms of waste.
- Understand and support elimination of waste (COMMWIP) waste.
- Aware of cost of supplies, energy, and parts for waste elimination.
- Assist team accurate documenting of scrap and non-conforming material.
- Participate in team CI objectives and BPD metrics.
- Seek efficiency in all activities to reduce cost.
- ENVIRONMENT: Engage in practices to minimize our environmental footprint.
- Understand and follow the applicable environmental policy.
- Support conserving energy and minimizing waste.
- Actively support recycling processes (water, air, materials, etc.)
Typical Day:
- Review Communications and check email.
- The Team Lead (TL) will hold a daily meeting with a brief overview of where work was lef.Develop a plan for the day.
- Follow the plan.
- Complete Test Request Process
- Prep Vehicle/Engine for Test
- Install Vehicle/Engine on Test Site
- Monitor Test
- Remove Vehicle/Engine from Test Site
- Conduct safety observation tour per schedule & Investigate Team safety incidents & implement corrective actions with TL.
- Conduct WPO assignments per schedule
- Engage in Employee Safety Concern Process (ESCP)
- Participate in all BPD activities
- Participating in Problem Solving for CI
- Communicate and escalate issues / information effectively and timely
- Train Team Members utilizing JIT Process - update flexibility chart
- Attend and Participate in Shift Overlap Meetings
- Maintain standardized work documents - ensure up to date
- Complete Quality Audits and Resolve Quality Issues
- Understanding and Complying with Environmental Aspects
- Participating in Throughput Improvement Process (TIP)
- Complete Timecard
- Maintain test sites clear of hazards (snow, ice, oil, fuel, etc
Education:
- 2- year degree or equivalent training/experience
- 2 years in Dynamometer Testing and Lab Operations setup
- Experience with AVL, Horiba or Burke Porter
- Understanding of Global Manufacturing Systems principles
